CAR SPACE is a visual investigation into people through their cars. A car is something that most people own and are a product of mass manufacturing. Each car that is received by us identical to thousands of others but over time people impart a sense of themselves onto their cars that make them now unique to the individual. By looking at cars, one can speculate and predict the character and personalities of their owners. These photos therefore aim to document these hints and signs to create a ambiguous portrait of strangers through looking at their cars.
This series also explores the relationship between cars and personal space. Most people think of personal space to be their homes or their room which carry a sense of privacy . Cars however are also a extension of their personal space, filled with personal items and artifacts of their existence . Therefore it is ironic that cars by nature offer the least amount of privacy. They are mobile and situated most of the time within a public space. Furthermore, by design they are meant to have high visibility when driving which means glass windows surround the space allowing passers-by to pier inside examining its contents. The only privacy offered is the glare and reflection of the windows. These photos therefore look inside the private space of strangers, questioning their privacy while simultaneously allowing insights into their character.
