Yi Cheng’s (b.2000, Shanghai) practice focuses on paintings that are informed by his daily life and encounters. Yi’s works are a moment in time captured then distilled and transformed through the nature of his lens. The resulting pictures are shaped by his feelings and memory into a painting that recalls back to lived experiences. Yi’s works often contain a sense of atmosphere and mood that permeates his paintings, evoking a feeling and conjuring up emotions within the viewer while leaving the painting open to interpretation.
Yi Cheng is an emerging Asian Australian artist from Melbourne/Naarm. He graduated from RMIT’s School of Art, graduating in Fine Art (Painting) 2022.
